HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - In the final days leading up to Election Day on Nov. 4, Republican candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Winsome Earle-Sears and John Reid, rallied voters on Thursday to choose “common sense over nonsense”.
Just two days after Democratic candidate Abigail Spanberger campaigned at nearby James Madison University, Earle-Sears stepped onto the exhibit hall stage at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds to rally her base.
Earle-Sears, Reid, and Virginia Republicans are confident in the party’s chances going into election day, expecting a strong turnout at the polls.
“We’re on the verge of a big sweep here in Virginia if you turn out,” Reid told the crowd.
After Earle-Sears was called back to Richmond for a surprise redistricting session earlier this week, she returned to the campaign trail, blasting Democrats, saying it was an attempt to keep her and fellow Republicans running for office away from voters.
“The democrats wanted that. You know why? Cause they’re trying to get at me,” Earle-Sears said.“Because they see the numbers and they know we’re gonna win, we’re gonna win.”
In the most recent poll from Roanoke College released early Thursday morning, Earle-Sears trails Spanberger by a 10% margin.
However, the Lieutenant Governor’s race is the tightest with Democrat Ghazala Hashmi hanging onto a 2% lead over John Reid.
Regardless of the polls, the closing message Earle-Sears had for Republicans was that they did not come this far just to get this far.
“We want to make sure that all the successes that we’ve had and they will continue with me as governor,” Earle-Sears said.
