Henrico, Va. — Today, John Reid, Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, issued a formal challenge to his Democratic opponent, Senator Ghazala Hashmi, to participate in a series of ten televised debates to be held across the Commonwealth.
Reid proposed the following debate schedule to ensure voters from every corner of Virginia—urban, rural, and suburban—have the opportunity to hear directly from the candidates:
Two debates in Northern Virginia
Two debates in Southwest Virginia
Two debates in the Richmond region
Two debates in the Tidewater region
One debate at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU)
One debate in Charlottesville
“The voters deserve a clear, unfiltered look at the stark differences between Senator Hashmi’s record and my vision for the future. From Fairfax to Floyd, Richmond to Roanoke, Loudoun to Lee, and everywhere in between—let’s take this debate directly to the people.”
Reid emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability as cornerstones of public service.
“If Senator Hashmi believes in her ideas, she should welcome the opportunity to defend them in front of Virginians from all walks of life. I’ll debate her anywhere, anytime. The people deserve to see who shows up,” he added.
The Reid campaign has pledged to work with bipartisan partners and Virginia-based media outlets to ensure that each debate is fairly moderated and widely accessible to broadcast television and online audiences.
