John Reid Closes the Gap in Lieutenant Governor’s Race

Momentum builds as early voting nears — race within the margin, with Reid rising at the right time

HEINRICO, Va. — A new poll released today confirms what Team Reid has seen across the Commonwealth: John Reid has closed the gap in the race for lieutenant governor, entering the final stretch with clear momentum and a path to victory. 

The poll shows Democrat Ghazala Hashmi at 38% and John Reid at 35%, within the margin of error, just one month before early in-person voting begins on September 19, 2025. 

“We’ve been everywhere. We’ve put forward real solutions. And Virginians are responding,” said John Reid. “Now we’re building the kind of momentum that wins statewide elections.” 

A Race Built to Close and Win 

• This poll confirms John Reid is now neck-and-neck with his opponent, closer than Glenn Youngkin or Winsome Sears were at this point in 2021. 

• On this day in 2021, Terry McAuliffe held a 5.5-point lead over Youngkin in the RCP average; Hala Ayala led Sears by 6 points in Roanoke College’s poll. 

• Today, Reid has already erased more ground and at exactly the right time.
