John Reid Challenges Ghazala Hashmi to Join Him for Lincoln–Douglas Style Debate on Live Radio

Henrico, VA – This week, Lieutenant Governor candidate John Reid is stepping behind the microphone as guest host of the John Fredericks Radio Show. Today, Reid issued a public challenge to his opponent, Senator Ghazala Hashmi, to join him live on-air this Thursday morning for a no-notes, Lincoln–Douglas style debate with a neutral third party moderator.

“Virginians deserve more than rehearsed talking points and staged appearances,” Reid said. “They deserve real answers, unfiltered and in real time. That’s why I’m inviting Senator Hashmi to sit across from me—one hour, no scripts, just an honest debate about the future of our Commonwealth.”

The proposed format would follow the historic Lincoln–Douglas style: extended statements, timed rebuttals, and direct cross-examination between candidates, focusing on the most pressing issues facing Virginia families, including education, public safety, the economy, and the cost of living.

Reid emphasized that the invitation is an opportunity for voters to see clear contrasts between the candidates.

“This is about transparency and accountability,” Reid said. “If Senator Hashmi is confident in her record and her vision for Virginia, she’ll take this seat on Thursday morning and make her case—directly to the people.”

The John Fredericks Radio Show airs statewide, reaching listeners across Virginia on AM and FM affiliates, streaming platforms, and online.
